One of Those Days

By: Andrea Del Mar Santiago

It is morning
I can feel the sun shining on my face
I wake up
“Do I have class today?
I do! I forgot I did!”

I was late, I over slept
My hair’s a mess
My socks won’t match
My car won’t start
I missed the bus
I took my bike
I got a flat
I had to walk.

I finally made it to class
And guess what?
Class was cancelled. Oh My God!

One of those days? No sir, not today.

Tuesday one pm workshop was so fast
I had a cramp
That went down and then went up
I couldn’t make it
I was stock
They kicked me out
What a shock.
Someone goes by
Asks: “One of those days?”
“I think it might”
That’s what a said.

But everything was about to change
Because I had saw him

I saw him sitting down
By a lonely table
I saw him smiling around
Like he is only capable
He approaches me with something in mind
“You look tired, I think is siesta time”
Sixty nine degrees outside
We took a blanket and laid down on the grass
We looked at the sky
All blue and white
The wind approaches gently
As our bodies come closer
I recognized a was sleepy
Within the warmest cuddle
A kiss on my forehead
 A gently touch
A blue-eye look
That made me blush
Were the afternoon key in falling in love.

I fell asleep

An hour went by.
I wake up
I see him.

I see him beside me
I see him caring for me
I see him smiling

One of those days...?

I had a bad day
Yet may my days often turn out this way
“May my siestas often turn out that way!” (Ovid, A Hot Afternoon: Siesta Time, 83)

Reflection

This class helped me realize that there is more out there in this world within the words. From all the sections we talked about in class, I believe that the section of love was my favorite. Experimenting and analyzing what others had wrote about love and feelings, made me realize that not everyone thinks the same way. Some might hate falling in love and it is mainly because they have been hurt in the pass. But think about it, how can we live without love? We love ourselves, we love nature, and we love technology since it makes things easier for us. So, why should people hate such a wonderful feeling?

I wrote a poem from a woman’s perspective of love and romance. Compared to Ovid’s poem, which comes from a male perspective, I decided to keep mine on a different view. Often men project sexual relationship with love. Women tempt to be quite different. My poem tells a story where something so simple as love, can make big changes.
